I lost my career flying as the whole world shut down. And randomly, out of nowhere, Becci from Silhouette sent me a message and said, would you like to trial our IPL hair removal?

Hi, my name’s Rachel – Bare Beauty, I’m a beauty therapist, I’ve been practising now for about 12 years. I was an air hostess with Virgin Atlantic for 25 years. When I had my children, I went part-time and I wanted something else to do, so I did a lash course. So, for about seven years, I was just doing lashes, brows and waxing.

Then we went into lockdown. I lost my career flying as the whole world shut down. And randomly, out of nowhere, Becci from Silhouette sent me a message and said, would you like to trial our IPL hair removal? So, I was like, yeah, great. She came to my house and showed me this machine and it looked absolutely incredible. And I said, how much is it? And she said, £12,500. And I just laughed, I was just like, no, I can’t do that, I haven’t got that much money.

Then my mind started ticking over and I thought to myself, so I’ve got 5,000 pound redundancy from Virgin. I only need another 7,500, I can make this happen. So, I reached out to all my clients, and I said, I want to bring IPL hair removal. No other staff has got it. Let’s do this, you can have it for 50% off. So, it would have been a 1,000 pound full body, I literally charged 500. I got 15 clients on board.

I worked my backside off for six months for nothing and I got that machine. I then moved into a hairdressers at the back in a little salon, just the one little room. And I saw Becci again and started talking about the other machines and I did it again. I wanted the radio frequency machine, I offered it for next to nothing.

I did 70 hours a week for six weeks, worked my backside off for next to nothing, got that machine. And I slowly built myself up to now, two weeks ago, I have opened this amazing salon. I’ve got a nail girl starting, they’re self-employed but they’re coming to work with me.

I’ve done this for my daughter, who’s now getting into beauty, and I feel quite emotional about it. Because I’m just giving her the best start, but it wouldn’t have happened if Becci hadn’t got in touch with me that day.

I’m just really, really proud of myself and I’m so grateful to be part of Silhouette. They’ve literally changed my life.
